Environmental evaluation of products from Borregaard - stage 2

Ostfold Research has created climate accounts for Borregaard's products, and now Borregaard wish to extend the analysis and to make environmental declarations for their products. They are also interested in applying for a Nordic 'Swan' eco-label.

In the spring of 2008, Ostfold Research estimated the emissions of green house gases for the products of cellulose, ethanol, lignin and vanillin produced by Borregaard in Sarpsborg. The project was based on a cradle-to-gate analysis, i.e. that all the upstream processes as well as the processes which take place in Borregaard were included.

The results were so useful, that Borregaard has decided to expand the project. The objective of phase two is to include all emissions to air, soil and water, so it is possible to work out environmental declarations and the eco-labeling. The results will also be used to form strategies in relation to the use of energy and the choice of future products.
