Monday 21st of November 2011 Cecilia Askham defended her PhD thesis.

The thesis concerns marrying the life cycle perspective with chemical hazard information, in order to advance the practice of environmental product development. The thesis title is: “Environmental Product Development Combining the Life Cycle Perspective with Chemical Hazard Information”.

Associate professor Thomas Rydberg, IVL,  Cecilia Askham, Associate professor Søren Løkke, Aalborg University. Professor Dr. Han Brezet, Delft University of Technology participated via Skype.

The Evaluation Committee was Associate professor Søren Løkke, Aalborg University (chairman), Prof. dr. Han Brezet, Delft University of Technology and Associate professor Thomas Rydberg, IVL, Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Some of the committee’s comments can be read here.

The thesis summary can be found here.

The Power-Point presentation from the defence can be found here.

The thesis was submitted as a monograph containing five papers. Two of the submitted papers have already been published in The International Journal of LCA and can be found here:

·      REACH and LCA—methodological approaches and challenges

·      Environmental product development: replacement of an epoxy-based coating by a polyester-based coating

Professor Per Christensen  has been Cecilia’s supervisor and Professor Ole Jørgen Hanssen her co-supervisor.
